Have you ever stopped and considered how portion sizes affect our healthy living goals?

So many of us struggle with keeping to our ideal weight but don’t realize that we are sabotaging our own efforts. Let’s discuss some creative ways that we can be our own food control board!
One of my personal favorites is to use a smaller plate when eating a meal.  This makes our minds think we are eating a fuller meal than we may actually be. Thus, we may be helping ourselves eat a smaller portion without feeling deprived.
Learn the difference between a portion and a serving size.  A portion is the amount we eat during a certain time. A serving is the amount listed on the foods nutritional label, providing you with information for that specific measurement of food. The serving size may not be the amount you need to consume, but it is a great tool to help you understand what you are consuming.
Being prepared is another way to help you keep to your healthy goals.  If you are planning on dining out, check the menu online ahead. Most restaurants have their nutritional information available online. You may be shocked at what you have been eating all this time!
The best tip of all is to not beat yourself up for a mistake. You are only human and learning to live healthy is a daily task. Try and make better choices each day, educate yourself on what you are consuming and you will never go wrong.
